Position Description:

The Senior Cybersecurity Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing our nationally focused cyber innovation program aimed at fostering groundbreaking energy grid protection solutions. As a key member of our team, this individual will bridge the gap between academic, federal lab partners, and industry stakeholders, facilitating a dynamic exchange of technical knowledge and innovation. This role demands a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the technical and policy landscapes of the energy sector, who can effectively lead and manage the program's technical direction and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Engagement with Academic and Federal Lab Partners: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key academic institutions and federal laboratories to foster collaboration and innovation.

Facilitate Technical Dialogue and Exchange: Serve as a conduit for technical discussions among stakeholders, ensuring productive and innovative outcomes.

Translate Technical Requirements and Specifications: Interpret and convert complex technical requirements into actionable learning opportunities, prototypes, and projects.

Oversee Technical Infrastructure: Manage and oversee the program’s technical infrastructure, ensuring it supports innovative projects and collaboration.

Enable Effective Engagement Between Stakeholders: Create and maintain platforms and environments that promote effective communication and collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

Evaluate Technology from Participants: Assess the technical viability and potential impact of technologies developed by participants, providing constructive feedback and guidance.

Organize, Track, and Recommend IP from Labs and Other Partners: Manage intellectual property matters, ensuring the proper organization, tracking, and recommendation of IP assets to support the program's goals.

Stay Informed on DOE & Lab Efforts and Industry Trends: Continuously monitor and analyze Department of Energy and lab efforts, as well as broader industry trends, to inform strategic decisions and program direction.

Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Expertise: Leverage expertise in distributed energy resources to guide the program’s focus on innovative energy solutions and integration challenges.

Data Analysis & Insights Extraction: 

  • Extract, preprocess, and analyze data from various sources to uncover patterns, anomalies, and trends.

  • Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to predict potential threats and risks.

Collaboration & Intelligence teams

  • Work closely with team members to understand their data requirements and provide actionable insights.

  • Contribute to threat intelligence assessments by offering data-driven perspectives.

Tool & Model Development: 

  • Develop and maintain predictive models that can be utilized for early threat detection and trend analysis.

  • Implement tools and scripts to automate data extraction, preprocessing, and analysis tasks.

Data Visualization & Reporting: 

  • Create interactive dashboards and visual reports that clearly convey findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Provide regular updates on data analysis projects, findings, and the status of ongoing investigations.

Continuous Learning & Research: 

  • Stay updated on the latest data science methodologies, tools, and best practices.

  • Research and implement innovative techniques to enhance the Fusion Center's data analytics capabilities.

Required skills & Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in energy research, development, and innovation, with a proven track record of leading projects and engaging with academic and federal research entities.

  • Deep understanding of LLM and use of Quantum Algorithms on Classical Systems. 

  • Deep understanding of the energy sector, including technical, regulatory, and policy aspects.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating technical dialogue and collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to translate complex technical information for various audiences.

  • Familiarity with intellectual property management, technology evaluation, and commercialization processes.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of DOE initiatives, lab efforts, and industry trends, particularly in the area of distributed energy resources.

  • Proficiency in data science tools and platforms like Python, R, SQL, and platforms like Jupyter, TensorFlow, and Tableau.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts and the threat intelligence landscape is a plus.

  • Ability to secure and maintain relevant security clearances.

  • Strategic thinker with a visionary outlook on the future of energy innovation.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
