Program Description:

Forge Institute was recently awarded a Department of Defense funded STEM project to provide educational outreach, instruction and opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The program’s goal is to raise interest and improve the knowledge and skills of at-risk youth in STEM fields with a hands-on minds-on approach. Desired outcomes are to provide a highly educated and skilled workforce that can answer Arkansas growing STEM career demand.

Position Description:The Instructor is responsible for the implementation of curriculum for the program. The Instructor focuses on active engagement with students to ensure understanding of material and outlined goals are met. High energy, involved Instructors are the key to the success of the program. Candidates need to be able to meet the program challenges with a positive outlook and be a positive role model to energize students.

Your responsibilities as a member of our team, will include but are not limited to:

  • To continually review and revise program materials to reflect current educational trends and research, and to provide for an exciting learning climate for the program

  • To write curriculum for use in both the local and national program

  • To participate, contribute to, and build a presence in educational organizations relevant to the program 

  • Represent Forge Institute and its programs through community outreach engagement. This includes attending relevant cyber and tech community groups, conferences, etc., and any additional outreach opportunities assigned to you

  • Maintain accurate records and inventory of real property

  • Coordinate with 19 AW COMM Group or Finance Office for disposal of IT or other real property according to AF regulations

  • Prepare materials, set up classrooms, and instruct classes

  • Alternate as lead teacher and support teacher per schedule to present program lessons and activities to participating classes

  • Participate in on-going DoD mandated staff development and training as directed by Director

  • Identify participating individual students’ needs, and attempt to provide appropriate intervention and accommodation to help insure success in program completion

  • Take pictures of students and teachers participating in various program activities

  • Assist in curriculum development & integration with state and national objectives

  • Assist visiting teachers who participate in the program

  • Participate in local and DoD mandated staff development as directed

  • Assist in planning, preparing, and conducting program workshops for local, state, and national levels

  • Serve as mentor to visiting Student Teachers

  • Conduct evaluations, collect data, and prepare statistical summaries of program data

  • Prepare PPT presentations for graduations, workshops, or other venues

  • Assist in creating and revising program materials

  • Assist in coordinating Student Teacher Field Experience, read journals, complete evaluations

  • Actively seek out opportunities to enhance program through award nominations, writing grants, or helping secure program sponsors

  • Assist in various planning, preparing, and hosting of receptions and fundraising venues, as needed

  • Assist in computer maintenance

  • Select and prepare requests for appropriate materials for purchase

  • Assist in verifying material shipments, updating material inventories, and putting away supplies 

  • Replenish bathroom supplies, clean lab and computer tables, as needed

  • Participate in continual cleaning and maintenance of office and kitchen

  • Obtain a background check and Security Clearance through the 19th Airlift Wing Security Forces

  • Agree to random drug testing throughout duration of employment

  • Assist in all other duties or activities deemed necessary for mission success by the Director

This position may involve some travel within the State of Arkansas, and occasionally could involve travel outside the State of Arkansas. Furthermore, you must adhere to internal security policies and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in STEM field or education.

  • The ideal candidate is proficient in lesson delivery, relates well to students and adults, and functions well in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment

  • At least 3 years of experience in elementary education is preferred.

  • Professional client-facing demeanor, comfortable in the classroom.

  • Strong, clear verbal and written communication skills.

  • Capable of completing tasks on time without supervision.
